Program Summary

The Master in Business, Climate, and Sustainability (MBCS) equips students with the interdisciplinary expertise to lead in a climate-disrupted economy. The MBCS program integrates three critical layers of expertise: core business skills, climate science literacy, and applied analytical methods. This interdisciplinary foundation prepares you to navigate complex systems, translate insight into strategy, and lead across industries and functions.

The MBCS program is a 10-month joint-degree designed by Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and the Nicholas School of the Environment. MBCS students are subject to the applicable academic policies and academic requirements outlined in the Fuqua School of Business bulletin and as communicated through the MBCS program administration. MBCS students are expected to adhere to the Duke Community Standard and the Fuqua School of Business Honor Code. Academic Requirements

The curriculum for the MBCS degree involves 15 required courses totaling 49 graduate credit hours and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. These courses are offered over five terms (three-four courses per term). Most courses meet twice a week for 2.25 hours each. Courses generally meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Practicum

Participating in the two-term practicum, students have the unique opportunity to apply their classroom learning to real-world environmental challenges. Students collaborate in diverse teams to tackle defined problems for actual clients, enhancing their analytical, communication, and leadership skills. This hands-on approach reinforces the fundamentals acquired during the MBCS program and provides a practical context that can differentiate students in the job market.
